Exciting news for families in Lubbock! The City of Lubbock Parks & Recreation Department has officially announced the opening of its splash pads this Friday, just in time for the summer heat. As temperatures rise, these fun water features are set to become popular spots for kids and families looking to cool off and have a blast.

Four-year old Charleigh Johnson plays in the water Monday, July 8, 2024 at Rodgers Park. The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation held three “Splash Around Town” events Monday to show off their three new splash pads.
Best of all, these splash pads are completely free for the public to use! Families can find them at three convenient locations throughout Lubbock. These splash pads will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, and from Noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. This schedule lets parents enjoy a day out with their kids while also accommodating longer play on weekends.
However, it’s important to note that from May 16 until May 22, the city has adjusted its splash pad hours to fit the school day schedule. The hours during this period will be as follows:
-
May 16 – May 18: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
-
May 19 – May 22: 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For additional information about the splash pads, including their features and accurate hours, residents can visit www.playlubbock.com or call (806) 775-2687 for more details.
What’s Happening with City Pools?
While splash pads are gearing up for the season, it’s worth mentioning that Clapp Pool, Lubbock’s only remaining municipal pool, will remain closed for the 2025 season. Clapp Pool was closed in 2024 for extensive repairs, and it’s currently unclear why it won’t be reopening this summer. Residents looking for swimming opportunities will have to rely on these fun splash pads instead.
With the official opening of these splash pads and the evolving circumstances around pool access, Lubbock families have found a refreshing way to beat the heat this summer.
