Inclement weather approaching Las Vegas beginning Monday afternoon.

Weather Warning: Prepare for Stormy Conditions in Las Vegas

Today’s Forecast: Morning Calm, Evening Chaos

For those commuting this morning, the weather is expected to be relatively clear and uneventful. However, anticipate a stark contrast by the evening. Starting this afternoon, widespread rain, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds will sweep across the region. This shift in conditions means that drivers and pedestrians should remain vigilant as the weather deteriorates.

Wind Advisory Details

A Wind Advisory has been issued, valid from 10 a.m. Monday to 2 a.m. Tuesday. This advisory warns of sustained south winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 to 55 mph. Such winds can cause hazards including downed trees and power lines, making it imperative to take precautions, especially for outdoor items.

Winter Storm Warning and Advisories

For those planning to venture into the Spring Mountains and Sheep Range, a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. Monday until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasts indicate snow accumulations between 6 to 12 inches above 5,000 feet, and even more staggering totals of 1 to 2 feet at elevations above 7,000 feet. In some higher altitudes above 9,000 feet, accumulations could exceed 2 feet!

Lincoln County is also under a Winter Weather Advisory from Monday afternoon through late Tuesday morning, expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow above 5,000 feet and significant wind gusts around 50 mph. Those driving in these areas should prepare for challenging road conditions and reduced visibility.

Evening Weather Expectations

Las Vegas will remain under cloudy skies this evening, and the chance of rain showers will increase as the storm approaches. South winds of 20 to 30 mph will persist, with valley temperatures cooling down into the mid-40s. Residents are urged to stay updated on changing conditions, particularly if they have evening plans or commute needs.

What to Expect This Week

Once the storm system has passed, a brief reprieve from the wet and wintry weather is expected on Tuesday, but don’t get too comfortable. More showers will likely return Tuesday night and persist into Wednesday. Additionally, another weather system could move in later in the week, from Thursday into Friday, bringing valley high temperatures into the 50s.

Rain and Snow Accumulation Predictions

The storm system is projected to deliver around 0.10 to 0.25 inches of rain across the valley, with some areas possibly recording higher amounts. Specifically, Lee and Kyle Canyons could see roughly 6 to 12 inches of snow, as the snow level drops from 6,000 to 7,000 feet today to around 5,000 feet by Tuesday.

Look Ahead: Warming Temperatures on the Horizon

As the week progresses, expect to notice a warming trend this weekend. By next week, highs could reach into the 70s, providing a much-needed break from the current cooling and stormy patterns.
